OUR CATTLE

Clementine 2.jpg

Clementine

Clementine came to Mossburn in January 2024 along with her friend Mistletoe. She is a limousin crossbreed cow who was born in April 2021. Following the death of a farmer, an amazing rehoming effort was launched over the course of a year to safely relocate hundreds of sheep and cattle. The girls were the last two remaining who needed a home when Mossburn was contacted and luckily we had space for them! In fact, we had been keen to offer a home to some cattle in need due to Sanchez's age and health problems - we did not want Jake to end up on his own. Clementine and Mistletoe did not have the best start in life as the animals on the farm were offered questionable care however we will not go into details and instead focus on their new life here. They are both extremely pretty cows and are friendly but a bit nervous of being handled. Clementine is a generally a calm character and is a big fan of swedes! The pair have settled in very well here and have been excellent additions to our little herd.

Jake and Joe 2.jpg

Jake

Jake arrived in 2017 after we found ourselves needing a companion for Joe who had been left lonely after the death of his companion, Blue. As luck would have it, Joe's full brother Jake was offered to us. Their meeting was highly amusing as Joe looked with great suspiscion at this hairy brown figure that had arrived in his field and then ran away! Jake followed Joe around until he cornered him, they touched noses and Joe came to realise that here was one of his own. Jake is now eight years old and is a light brown colour rather than the more usual ginger for a Highland! Sadly we lost Joe after a field injury in late 2023 but Jake now has the two girls for company.

Mistletoe

Mistletoe came to Mossburn in January 2024 along with her friend Clementine. She is a limousin cow who was born in August 2021. Mistletoe is the more confident of the two and can be a bit boisterous with the other cattle. She is also very quick to steal food from them if they do not eat it quickly enough! The pair have settled in very well here and have been excellent additions to our little herd.
