Rhubarb arrived here in October 2016 a neutered male rabbit who had found his way from London to New Galloway and thereafter to us. He was a much loved London rabbit but did not consider the environment there healthy for him and requested a relocation! Rhubarb’s London owners have been to visit him and are very pleased to see him happily ensconced on his countryside estate!
Custard arrived with four lady guinea pigs in 2017, their owner professing to be unable to accommodate or look after them any longer. Unfortunately Custard must have been pregnant on arrival and sadly gave birth to four babies shortly after arriving here. As we would have been unable to accommodate another four rabbits here and the fact that both Custard and likely the father have half or full wild rabbit genes, we made the difficult decision to humanely euthanase the babies. Wild rabbits do not tame and to try to keep them in captivity is not fair on them and in our opinion and experience is quite cruel; any we have had here have found ways to escape and not only are they highly unlikely to survive in the wild, they also then introduce problematic domestic genes into the wild population. Custard was immediately spayed and now lives happily with Rhubarb.
