Product Description

You will notice that we only have two guinea pigs on our website, one male, Milo, and one female Mildred. We have a lot of other guinea pigs too many in fact to name and give histories to them all so we have chosen representatives. Very often we do not know the ages of animals brought in to or rescued by us and this is the case with Mildred.
What I can tell you about her is that she was living in a hamster cage and was reported to us by a neighbour of her owner. When our manager went to see if she could help, we do try to be diplomatic, she was at first told to mind her own business and …. Off but held her ground and managed to persuade the owner to let her bring Mildred back here to Mossburn. Needless to say Mildred was delighted to find herself in a large grass run with a house, a number of other guinea pigs and a rabbit in overall charge, Charlie. If you pick one of Charlie’s guinea pigs up and it squeaks he bites you!!!
We have been criticised in the past for running rabbits and guinea pigs together, people who think themselves very knowledgeable advise us that the diets of the two species differ too much to allow them to live together.
This is not true, guinea pigs require more vitamin c than rabbits and if, like us, you feed a lot of green stuff there is no reason at all for the species not to live very happily together. Our rabbits and guinea pigs get a varied diet and morning feed has lettuce with it while evening feed is either cabbage, spinach or curly kale, those being in addition of course to the rabbit and guinea pig mixtures and the carrots, sweet potatoes, apples, pears, plums, celery, grapes and sweet corn they receive on a rotational basis.
