Barney

Barney is probably the most photographed goat in Scotland, whether this is due to his exceptionally white and curly coat, his overshot bottom jaw that shows his teeth and makes him appear to be smiling or his passion for human companionship we do not know but it is a fact that most visitors to Mossburn simply have to take a picture of Barney!

Barney arrived here two years ago. Some time before that we had been asked if we could give Barney and his brother a home, we had no room at the time but a young volunteer said that she and her family were looking for goats and they took Barney and his brother in. When Barney’s brother died we took Barney on here so that he would not be lonely. In fact, apart from Joey, Barney does not get on with other goats but he is really passionate about humans and if you leave the door to the house open he is soon inside and mugging you for tit bits!!
Barney is an Angora goat, we have no idea of his age, he is very, very friendly, causes a great deal of amusement both because of his looks and the fact he arrives in the kitchen regularly and without any warning, goes up to the table and stands there in the hopes that something like dried fruit will miraculously appear, needless to say it often does!! Barney and Joey share a pen and are quite content and happy together.
