Attilla The Bun

The all too familiar phone call, “a rabbit was found wandering in the village of Ecclefechan and brought to me” but this call was from a genuine animal lover who had done her utmost to find the owner of this rabbit by sticking up posters in shops and on the street. The reality of course is that whoever owned the rabbit had got fed up with it and turned it loose, they rarely survive in the wild as rabbits are territorial and will not let outsiders in.

The lady who phoned Mossburn was worried since no one had come to claim the rabbit that the accommodation she had to offer him was too small, it was a guinea pig hutch and yes, far too small, but it was all she had. We usually can find accommodation for the genuine emergency and agreed to take this large, healthy and friendly entire male rabbit in, his temporary foster mother agreeing to hand him over to a member of our staff on her way to work one morning. He arrived nameless and we thought that as he was such a fine specimen Attila The Bun would suit him very well!!! He was castrated immediately and lived on his own in a run opposite Tiger, a lady rabbit who had just lost her long time companion Lulu.
It takes three weeks after castration for a male rabbit to become infertile and Attila was watched over this period to see if there was any connection between him and Tiger, with fences between them they did appear to be communicating on a friendly level so when the fertility period was up we introduced Attila in with Tiger and waited to see what would happen. Attila was amorous at first but not unduly so and Tiger did not seem put out by his attentions, they certainly never came to blows which rabbits can do extremely viciously, we left them to it and they are now as inseparable as once Tiger was with Lulu. Tiger does not like being handled by humans along with several of our other rabbits but Attila is happy to be picked up and given a cuddle which is good for the small children who visit here and long to cuddle a bunny!
