Megan came down to us from an equine rescue in Lanarkshire, the landlord of the premises it occupied having given the tenant notice as he wanted his land back. The lady who ran the centre and looked after the horses and ponies managed to re-home all but three ponies and we decided that what was one more Shetland here or there so Megan was duly brought down to us. She shares a small field with Rambler and try’s to knock some sense into him occasionally.
Megan has a deformed hind leg so is permanently a little lame which is a pity as otherwise she would be good enough to show alongside Rambler, not that we care too much about going to shows but it is a day out for the ponies. Megan is also very prone to the condition known as laminitis and her intake of food has to be very carefully monitored, she also has to be regularly exercised, , an hours brisk walk a day on the end of a lead rope. Sometimes we put all the bigger horses in Rambler and Megan’s field in order to ensure there is very limited grass in there, we supplementary feed the ponies instead of allowing them to eat their heads off and fall ill.
Megan is an attractive black Shetland mare aged at the time of writing (July 2011) about nine years, she is friendly and loves humans.
