This is a photo of our foal Catriena who at the time of writing is a year and 3 months old. She has turned out to be a steel grey and is now about 13.2hh and growing rapidly! Catriena is far too intelligent for our good – she can undo any knot we tie her
with and has a knack of working things out. Catriena was born with a hernia and earlier this year (2013) she went to Clyde vets in Lanark to have it operated on. The operation was successful but Treena, as we call her for short, and her mother had to be confined to 4 weeks of box rest after the operation. Suggestions were made for their entertainment, one of which was apple bobbing. It took Treena precisely 30 seconds to work out that if she tipped the water out of the bucket she got the apples far quicker! Unfortunately she continued to tip every bucket she was given thereafter for some considerable time… We also provided her with an octagonal ball that contained treats which only dispense when the ball is pushed or kicked in the right direction. Treena thought the fact the treat fell into the straw of her bed was a bit of a nuisance and again within a short time, she worked out that if she removed the straw from the area where she was playing with the ball, the treat was more easily recovered.
