Mac the Rabbit book

We are delighted that Mac the Mossburn Rabbit now has his own book. The story follows our very own Mac on a voyage of discovery with the help of Fern the Deer and the Rabbit Rescue Squad, amongst others.
Readers of all ages will love the story by Hugh McMillan and the excellent illustrations by Chris White.
We are very grateful to everyone who has helped in the production of Mac the Rabbit and especially to Hugh & Chris.

"Rabbits," Sasha had said one day, "have been in this country for 2000 years." He'd tapped his stick on the floor for emphasis. "When Julius Caesar first sailed here, he was driven out by a tough force of rabbits. He......Yes?" Mac had tentatively raised a paw. "I thought," said Mac nervously, "Well, I'd heard that......read actually that......" He could feel Sasha's gaze on his face. "Well, I'd heard" said Mac all in one brave breath, "that they thought rabbits were food, not soldiers." There had been a long silence. "Mac," said Sasha at last, in a patient way, "would you kindly look out of the window?" Mac had done so, stretching his long back legs to look at the field outside. "How many rabbits do you see?" Sasha had asked. Mac had looked as carefully as he could, "Bout 60 or 70," he'd answered. Sasha had stared at him then at the rest of the class before turning back. "And how many Romans?" Mac had taken the point. Rabbits ruled.
Book Review by New Hope International
I didn't quite know what to expect when this children's book with the lovely bright cover fell out of the bunch of books for review and I admit having felt a little self-conscious to start with, reading it on the London Underground and neither grandchild nor flopsy bunny by my side to share the excitement or provide an excuse for adult indulgence.
But once the story had hooked me in well and proper, I stopped caring. Hugh McMillan has produced what is always a good recipe: a child's book that parents will enjoy reading. All the ingredients are there: a Peter Rabbit-style adventurer, a badly-treated Vietnamese pig (But why Shanghai? I'd have gone for Saigon myself.) The Rabbit Rescue Squad he founds has a tempestuous, Orwellian meeting to decide on the rescue plans, which don’t of course go exactly to plan. There is just the right dose of suspense and pathos and of course, a Swallows and Amazons ending to, literally, tie up all the loose ends. Plus some very amusing asides to the reader.
Chris White's black and white drawings are full of life and humour.
The book is published in conjunction with the Mossburn Animal Centre — who have a truly lovely website — and proceeds go towards caring for sick and maltreated animals.
An excellent present for younger readers, but do read it first.
For my part, I have now left the book in the care of my numerous young London cousins and I'm sure they will not only read the book but whisper the word Mossburn around.
