Silillia is one of Mossburn’s characters, she is a mule, mum was a pony dad was a donkey. Her previous owner did not know when he bought his mare that she was in foal, he certainly did not expect a mule to arrive but that is exactly what happened! About nine years on from the arrival the man sold his house and land and was going to have the mare and her baby shot, fortunately for both of them someone persuaded him to let them come here.
The owner had been frightened of Silillia and the first thing she did on arrival here was to bite Juanita in the stomach as she went to untie her in the horse box and so began a war of wills. Sil bit and kicked and fought every inch of the way when asked to lead or do anything she did not want to do. It took endless patience and many injuries (to Juanita) before she finally accepted life was easier if you did as you were told though it still takes a minimum of four strong men to hold her when she is wormed!!!
After she had been here for two years a German student arrived for a three month work experience stay and fell in love with Sil and spent hours breaking her in and then riding her, she has a canter to die for. One year she went on a sponsored ride with about forty other horses and had to go and meet and greet every single one of them, she is exceedingly inquisitive.
Sil is small for a mule being only 12 hands high but what she lacks in stature she more than makes up for in character. Her chocolate brown colouring finishes this wonderful creature off beautifully!
