Mac the Rabbit Book

Mossburn Competition rules

1. Eligibility: Entry is open to anyone who is not a professional writer/poet or author. Two classes of entry: Junior class: under 16 years of age. Senior class: over 16 years of age on the 1st day of each competition month. Entry must be the original and unpublished work of the entrant which is not currently submitted for publication nor for any other competition. Entries MUST be accompanied by the appropriate entry fee and competition entry form. Envelopes should be marked according to competition i.e. Senior or Junior Short Story: Senior or Junior Poetry and the month. Entry forms and fees published on Mossburn website or by post if accompanied by a stamped addressed envelope.

2. Entry Fees and Submissions: Fee for each entry is £5. Cheques or postal orders should be payable to Mossburn Community Farm, or you can pay by credit/debit card. (See entry form for details). Postal submissions only. No email or fax submissions accepted. Donations in addition to entry fees would be acceptable.

3. Manuscripts: Short Story Manuscripts: Entries must be typed in double spacing on single sides of A4 white paper with a front page stating the entrants name, address, phone number and (where possible) email address and date of birth for under 16 years of age. Please state story title and word count. Entries will be returned if accompanied by a stamped addressed envelope with appropriate postage.

4. Poetry Manuscripts: Entries must be typed in single spacing with double spacing between stanzas on single sides of A4 white paper including line count at end of poem. Entrants name, address, telephone number and (where possible) email address and date of birth for under 16 years of age must be typed on the reverse. Entries to poetry competitions will not be returned.

5. Length and content: Short Stories - a minimum of 1000 words and a maximum of 1500 words. Poems maximum of 40 lines unless otherwise stated in monthly theme.

6. All manuscripts: Receipt of entries will be acknowledged if accompanied by a suitably worded stamped and addressed postcard. Entrants retain copyright in their manuscripts.

7. Judges: Decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

8. Notification: Winners will be notified within two months of the closing date after which unplaced entries may be submitted elsewhere. Winning entries may not be submitted elsewhere for twelve months after that date without permission from Mossburn who retain the right to publish winning entries in any form during that twelve months.
